History

PlastiPure, Inc. was founded in 2000 by noted University of Texas neurobiology professor Dr. George Bittner, with the mission of creating plastic bottles free of all chemicals with estrogenic activity (EA). Chemicals with EA have been linked to serious health issues, from altered behaviors to greater rates of some cancers.

Bittner and his team of experts – scientists from cellular and molecular biology, endocrine physiology, polymer chemistry, and polymer engineering – have invested millions of dollars over the last decade to develop the technology, intellectual property and exclusive patents to produce EA-Free plastics. Our customers and partners are resin manufacturers, compounders, processers, distributors, and consumers.

In 2008, PlastiPure became the first company to introduce a line of 100 percent PlastiPure-Safe™ certified EA-Free plastic bottles. In 2009 PlastiPure has developed or certified a large portfolio of resins, colorants, additives, and processing aids, which can be used with approved conversion processes to produce PlastiPure-Safe™ certified EA-Free products. Also released in 2009 was the world’s first certified EA-Free reusable water bottle, manufactured through a partnership between PlastiPure and Hydrapak. In 2010, PlastiPure signed on with new partners for additional products and is now completing work on PlastiPure-Safe™ certified EA-Free baby bottles, additional water bottles, food packaging, and medical devices. Many of these new products will be released in early 2011.
