Founder and Chief Scientific Officer
Dr. George Bittner, a professor of neurobiology and pharmacology at The University of Texas at Austin, founded PlastiPure in 2000. With more than 150 peer-reviewed publications in cell/molecular biology, electrophysiology, synaptic biophysics, and biochemistry of nerve regeneration, Dr. Bittner earned election as a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 1992. He has been the principal investigator or co-PI of more than 30 grants totaling over $10 million from the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, and Texas Advanced Technology, and has served in leadership positions at such companies as Blue Heron Paper, EASi Engineering, and Panda Energy. One of four founding members of the Institute for Neuroscience at The University of Texas, Dr. Bittner earned his B.A. in chemistry at Duke University and his Ph.D. at Stanford University, and worked as a postdoctoral fellow at UCLA.
